About

Plumley Village is an affordable housing community in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the site of Everyplace’s first U.S.-based pilot.

In partnership with residents and the management company, the project explores how community-led design and beautification can transform shared spaces. The initiative focuses on strengthening connection, improving well-being, and reimagining how housing environments can support dignity, belonging, and everyday quality of life.

This project was initiated by Clark University’s Home Ground Lab.

Why beauty matters here

In affordable housing, shared spaces often go underused or overlooked. Thoughtful design and care can transform these areas into places where residents gather, connect, and build community.

“When people feel a sense of ownership over their environment, they begin to care for it differently and in doing so, they strengthen the community around them.”

What this partnership will explore

  • How resident-led design strengthens connection and sense of belonging

  • How shared spaces can support social interaction and well-being

  • How small-scale beautification shifts how people use and value space

  • How housing environments can better reflect the people who live there

What would it look like for a housing community to feel warm, welcoming, and alive, where residents connect, participate, and take shared ownership of the place they live? That’s what we want here.
