In two flood-affected villages near the Arabian Sea, Haji Chaglo and Hamzo Khaskheli, home to 948 people who stayed through the 2022 floods, the community's voice runs through its own Village Organisations: meetings, women's and children's consultation sessions, and a validation step before anything is built. What residents chose says what beauty means here. Shade, color, green, and places to sit together in the heat.
What they’re building
Residents hold the budget and lead the work themselves. Across both villages they are creating shaded sitting places beneath trees, painted entrances and village gateways, greener courtyards and cooling corridors, and Ajrak-inspired painting that carries Sindh's own craft tradition into shared spaces.
